When I was at the cinema to see Pursuit of Happyness last month I saw a movie poster with the big letters TNMT at the bottom. I thought what the hell’s that?

Only my favourite cartoon when I was a kid – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I didn’t even know they were making a 3D film of it. How class is that. it looks a blend of an action and comedy and looks amazing. I’m going to see it!

The trailer’s below, films out in Uk march 30th

Let me know what you think? Does it look any good?

Donatello was my favourite Turtle by the way. Who was yours?

Has Will Smith EVER made a bad movie? February 25, 2007

I was thinking the other day, who is my favourite actor ever? A hard question, do I judge on the most technically gifted actor, one that acts in serious, or funny films, and has this person made their fair share of bad movies. Well I decided my favourite actor is Will Smith. He can act in action, comedy, and serious films like the Pursuit of Happyness and what’s more I believe him NEVER to have made a bad film.

Lets go from the start. After finding success young while making six hit series of the Fresh prince of Bel Air and topping music charts with his popular yet quirky records in the early nineties, Smith made the jump into film. His first big role which really catapulted him into the eyes of respectful film critics was “Six degrees of Separation”. While the plot at times was a bit complex, Smith’s acting won rave reviews as he played a serious part- something his critics had never, and doubted his ability to, seen him do. the film was nominated for an Oscar, not bad forhis first real foray into the film industry. Will Smith’s next big role was in Bad Boys. Quite possibly my favourite film ever! Gun fights, car chases, edge of your seat moments and a great deal of comedy with an entertaining plot as him and Martin Lawrence are forced to switch identities make this well worth watching. I remember this was on TV on my birthday this year, whoever planned that gets my thanks! Bad Boys II which was made in 2003 was more of the same, bigger luder, funnier, but also longer. By the end it did seem to drag a bit but its a great film all the same.

Check out the trailer for yourself below…

Having asked people, has Will Smith ever made a bad movie? one person replied Independence day. I laughed. Independence day is a great film, and while yes its far fetched well isn’t that what you go to cinemas for? I do. Another hit movie with Will Smith and aliens is the popular Men In Black. Its a really entertaining film and has a lot of laughs and a wicked theme tune which you’ll be singing for days after you hear it, same with Men In Black 2 which is essentially more of the same but not quite as good. Enemy of the State is another top movie with Smith in as he stars alongside Gene Hackman, who tries to ruin Smith’s life in every possible way. very entertaining filma nd I had the fortune to pick it up on dvd last year for a fiver. Sweet. Wild Wild West is a film people often quote at me when asked if Smith’s filmed a bad film but I loved it! Just don’t take it too seriously thats all.

One of Smith’s greatest challenges was the portrayal of Muhammed Ali in the biographical film of his life. pretty big shoes to fill. Yet Smith was able to pull it off and I can’t think of anyone who could have done it better. If there is please let me know. In recent years Smith has made the successful futuristic sci-fi pic I, Robot - again a box office hit, and has begun to test himself in new waters and try something a little different. After all he’s earned the right to. In 2005 he did what he never had before and filmed a romantic comedy Hitch about a date doctor who couldn’t woo the girl of his dreams yet he could set anybody up with anyone. Its a very funny film and one both me and my girlfriend enjoyed when we watched it together last year. he’s also voiced for animated movie Shark Tale and taken on his most challenging roles for years in The Pursuit of Happyness which is a pretty sad but uplifting film and sees Smith stick two fingers up to anyone that says he can only act in comedies. His son Jaden also stars in it, could this be the start of a long career for him?!

So there you have it, I believe Will Smith has never made a bad movie and is probably incapable of doing so. Feel free to try and prove me wrong. Dan

This is my type of film! Fight scenes, chases, and guns! I must say I had never heard of this film until it was recommended to me. But now I am recommending it to all of you, so follow my advice and watch it! Frequency is an action packed thriller based on the concept of time travel. A radio frequency links a son to his father thirty years ago who he never knew because he died. So the son decides to warn to father of his impending fate, saving his life, but then has to fix the consequences. Where many time travel movies get a bit techy and hard to follow, this one is very well thought out and executed superbly. It’s very similar to recent cinema release Deja Vu with Denzel Washington, just not as high-budget, not to say that its any worse for this. The most recognisable actor to me in the film was Jim Caviezel who played the son John Sullivan and he does it very well and convincingly. Dennis Quaid also gives a very good performance as his dad Kevin Sullivan. While the idea of linking time via an old frequency radio seems unrealistic, the film has a gritty edge to it which makes it believable and enjoyable. If you are an action thriller fan like myself then you will love this and amazon are selling it for under £6 on their website which is a bargain whichever way you look at it. Movies like this and The Butterfly Effect can certainly get you thinking, about how every little thing you do can influence the future.

So if it’s pure entertainment, a well-executed and thought out idea and script you’re after, look no further. It made me a bit unsure of what I was getting when I next got static on the radio!

I give this movie 4.5/5

The Hills Have Eyes (2006) February 19, 2007

Hills Have Eyes DVD coverThis is one of those scary movies I was talking about. I must say I was reasonably cautious about watching this as films with mutated beings in isn’t really my thing. From the opening credits, with shots of disfigured humans designed to shock I was wondering if it was too late to change my mind, but I am glad I didn’t. The Hills Have Eyes set around the premise that when America tested nuclear weapons in the desert in the 1960s this particular bunch of people refused to move and have been paying the price for it ever since. Meanwhile, taking out their pain on any unfortunate travellers coming their way who generally they savagely kill then eat them to survive. If the victims are lucky. The poor unsuspecting family on a road-trip through the desert to California are a motley bunch and theres no real idea of who will end up surviving, which is a good thing for the viewer so they can keep guessing. At one point you do think “How the hell are they gonna get out of this?” which shows the film’s creators did something right. The large-ish family also means there is someone there that every viewer can relate to, compared to the similar film “Wrong Turn” where all the characters whouldn’t be out of place in a teen comedy like “American Pie”.    Be warned though this movie isn’t for the faint hearted or the squeamish, theres more gore than you can shake a stick at, and at times an over the top amount of blood. One distasteful moment was the dog being killed and eaten, fine if you’re from the far east but not something we appreciate over in the UK. Some of the ‘jump out your seat’ moments are a bit contrived and predictable too’ but that doesn’t mean its any less entertaining. If horror movies are your thing I thoroughly recommend you watch this. Its nothing groundbreaking, nothing new, but its a lot of fun to watch and gives the target audience exactly what they want. And guess what, one of the mutants survives at the end…so roll on “Hills HaveEyes 2″ to be released in the cinema later this year!

I rate this movie 3.5/5

Me This is Dan here, I am a 20 year-old university student in the UK and have far too much time on my hands, after watching many hours of DVDs over the past month or so I have decided to do something productive with my time and tell the world my thoughts on the movie and TV DVDs I have been watching, and films that I have seen at the cinema.

I will also give my opinion on upcoming cinema releases and post movie trailers for people to watch and make up their own minds as well as writing other film related features. I study Journalism so writing is my passion.

I am interested in hearing other people’s opinions so whether you strongly agree or strongly disagree with me let me know!

I am a fan of action and comedy to expect to see those genres mainly in my blog along with horror films as my girlfriend loves them and they are beginning to grow on me!
